Through research, we learned that one of the biggest pain point for shopping online is size & fit especially for footwear. This represents 70% of Nike's product offering. One of the biggest pain point for consumers shopping footwear digitally is not knowing their sizes. Additionally, because every pair of shoes are designed a little differently, finding the right size can be tricky for consumers.
Nike Fit is a feature on Nike App which uses AR to measure shoppers’ feet size, in order to help them finding the perfect shoe sizes in their shopping journey. Nike Fit provides consumers with accurate size recommendations that are unique to each pair of shoes, so consumers can shop with ease.
Our aim is to improve the overall Nike Fit scan experience by increasing its usability, completion rate, and make size & fit accessible for all Nike App shoppers.

We conducted a qualitative user research study with 12 candidates with the goal of understanding how users progress through Nike Fit Scan flow to improve the usability of the experience and drive more successful completion rates. Here's what we learned.
1. Users were unsure what to expect when first encountering initial Nike Fit call to action.
2. Since Nike Fit is a new experience to the users, they wanted an initial overview of the process before committing.
3. Having photos of the steps minimized confusion for the participants.
4. Participants appreciated that there were thoughtful error prevention and error recovery mechanisms.
5. Some consumers and trouble understanding and recovering from some of the more technical errors.
1. Users are unsure what Nike Fit is
Opportunity: Better communicate the process and benefits of Nike Fit, so users know what to expect from the experience.
2. Users are confused by the steps
Opportunity: Educate users on the process and ensure they can easily recover from errors when encountering them.
Shoppers encounter the Nike Fit experiences organically during their shopping journey when they are selecting their sizes. Here they get brief description of what Nike Fit is and its benefits.
Once shoppers have committed to the Fit experience, they are greeted with an overview of Nike Fit’s scan experience, so they can get an idea of what they’re getting into and what they’d need in order to use the feature.
As users get into the scan flow, they get a progressive break down of the steps paired with videos to fully help users understand the nuances of each instructions.
To help reduce information load for users, instruction modals are interwoven with the corresponding steps, so that users won’t have to memorize all the steps at once. Instead, they only have to learn and execute each steps one at a time.

The scan flow can be complex and complicated. To aid users in keeping tracks of the instructions, they tap on the “Question Mark” button at any point, which will bring up the instructions for each step.
Scan Guidance ⤵
To help users achieve optimal results, graphics during the steps are used to properly guide users to complete the tasks successfully.
There are many ways that users can encounter an error while scanning for their feet size. To help users get back on the right track, contextual error messagings will appear and help guide users along the way.
Once users have successfully gone through the scan experience, Nike Fit will calculate the results and create a size profile for the users, where users can see the range of sizes that fit them. When users shop for future footwear, they are given a Nike Fit size recommendation based on their previous scan results.
Since every footwear is built a little different, Nike Fit provides consumers with accurate size recommendations that are tailored to each individual product, so they can shop with confidence digitally.
Nike Fit also provides consumers with explanation on the size recommendation to provide confidence for the consumers.
